I'm participating in Hello Mornings this Fall {Hey, I know it's like 90 degrees here and it's only the beginning of September, but I'm callin' it Fall anyway!} and we're 2 weeks in so far. I tried it for the first time in the Spring and it didn't end so well. I did try and succeeded in getting up earlier, having prayer and reading time for part of the time, but fell away from it all.
Am I rockin' it this time around? Not so far, no. I thought it was perfect that the start of this session coincided with the start of school, but I guess I hadn't really thought it through. All of a sudden, Summer Me had to get up much earlier just to help get clothes, breakfast, pack lunches for hubs & son, and get myself ready to drive kiddo to school. Yikes! So my Hello Mornings time would have to start even earlier. That hasn't worked well since I still don't go to bed early.
So am I going to say forget it - I can't do this anyway?? NO! On my own, I can't do anything right anyway - I need God's help and I haven't been asking for it. So, prayer for help in getting to bed earlier and waking up in the morning sooner is a good start. And then baby steps. I'm a big fan of the baby steps! I've got a plan for the next 3 weeks to baby step into getting up sooner.
This week: Be in my bed by midnight {gotta start somewhere}. Get up early enough to have a cup of coffee {6:25ish} before hubs & son get up. That's all - but I need that cup of coffee to keep me from falling asleep during my prayer/reading time. So I'm starting there.
Next Week: Be in bed by 11:30pm. Get up early enough to have cup of coffee and pray {6:10ish} before everybody gets up.
The Following Week: Be in bed by 11pm {Is that even possible for me? LOL}. Get up early enough to have cup of coffee, pray, and read {5:55ish} before everybody gets up.
I'll see how these 3 weeks go and then make changes as necessary. I just want you to know that you CAN do this too! Don't give up just because things haven't worked out quite right. Start fresh this week. Make a new plan. And pray! Truly, I'm a total night owl and I'm working on this so I know you're capable. Consider yourself hugged and encouraged by me! Let's do this!
You don't have to be an official Hello Mornings participant to work on these things! Leave a comment and let me know if this is something you're trying to do or struggling with - I always like knowing what good company I'm in! :)

See you bright and early in the morning friends!! :) Have a blessed day!
Ha! I am such a night owl. I don't get to bed before 1:00a most mornings. I am not sure I have plans to fix that any time soon. I like my alone time and I do my best and sometimes only blogging late at night. But, I am getting older and my brain works much harder when I lack sleep. Besides, I am grumpier! Good for you for making changes! Cute coffee mug!
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbie! If night is what works for you, that's great - but do get plenty of sleep! It makes such a difference. :)
DeleteI love your plan - baby steps! I mean, what fun would this be if we all started out perfectly? I love reading how everyone is evolving and adapting to new routines through Hello Mornings.
ReplyDeleteAw thanks! So true - the fun is in struggling and improving, but doing it together!
DeleteI participated in Hello Mornings for 2 sessions. It's amazing! I'm out this one, but may, eventually return.
ReplyDeleteThe joke now, is, since I'm such a night owl, I'm a "Hello Evenings" kind of gal. I do my best work and study after the sun goes down instead of before it comes up. We'll see...
I'm still a night owl, but am just not able to blog well/think straight late at night any more. It's become a real struggle so I think God might be wanting me to change my ways a little. :)
DeleteGreat post, Lisa! You can totally do this.
ReplyDeleteI remember a couple of years ago when I did my Joy in the Morning series and was waking up at 6am....I like this gradual stepping into earlier mornings. We started school this week, but not our early morning schedule until next week. (That means 6:30-7am wake up for me. bleh.)
Thanks Charlotte! Hope school is going well so far! Prayers for your new early wake-up time next week. :)
DeleteMidnight? Whoa. I'm bed by 10pm at the latest...and that was even before having the baby. I am a morning person. I naturally wake up between 6 and 7 but waking up earlier doesn't really bother me. You night people confuse me. lol.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I can relate...I'm a night owl too. I have actually made it to being in bed by 10-10:30 each night so that I had plenty of time to myself for God, planning, and exercise. It took time but I did it and it has been awesome for me. I encourage you to keep at it. Baby steps are good and well worth the effort!
ReplyDeleteGreat plan, Lisa! I have typically been a morning person, but having littles in my life has really flipped my days and nights around. There are some days that I can hop right out of bed - and others that I feel like I'm dragging the whole day! I do think that the consistency is a big factor and like you said - Make a new plan and start fresh! Great post!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay since I'm going back and picking a few posts to comment on, I am now wondering how you're doing on this? Cause I know you're quite the night owl and change is hard at our age. But consistency is the key so if you keep at it you CAN do it.
ReplyDeleteBig 10 pm is my cut off most nights so I can rise and shine at 6 am in a perfect world size hugs to you!
Love you my friend.
