Not too long ago on my blog, I shared my post ~ Will You Hold My Hand? ~ with you. In it I mentioned feeling like I needed to loosen my tight grip on the steering wheel of life. Like I shouldn't be trying to control things so much.
Then I attended the Allume conference and received so many lovely new books, one of which was LET. IT. GO. by Karen Ehman. And then I started reading the book and was invited to be a part of the blog tour! Hmmm...maybe *somebody* is trying to tell me something?
A little bit about the book:
LET. IT. GO. How to Stop Running the Show & Start Walking in Faith
By Karen Ehman
Foreword by Candace Cameron Bure
Women are wired to control. We make sure the house is clean, the meals prepared, the children are dressed, and everyone gets to where they’re going on time. But sometimes our strength of being conscientious can morph into the weakness of being a slight—or all out—control freak! This humorous, yet spiritually practical book will help you to:
- Take control of your schedule yet welcome interruptions from God
- Draw the line between mothering and micromanaging
- Influence your husband instead of manipulating him
- Learn to control your emotions when you can’t control the circumstances
- Stop pursuing the appearance of perfection and start pursuing the person of God
Karen Ehman is the Director of the Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker team and the author of six books. In the book, Karen mentions a couple of issues she discovered that led to the need for control.
Oh my. Sounds like me!! Though I may not always outwardly appear as an overbearing control freak, on the inside I'm stomping my foot and yelling when things don't go according to my plans. How about you? Who's with me {And Karen. And so many other women.}?"1. We want to feel indispensable.2. We want to get our own way."
I would love to hear about your own LET. IT. GO. stories! Do you have a story about learning to let go? Do you know of specific control issues you struggle with? Have you come up with one or two ways you can give up control in the next couple of months? Please link up an old or new post sharing your own LET. IT. GO. story! This book would fall in my hands at the perfect time! When my son was born, 7 years ago, I let go of much of my control-freak side, but it has been creeping back and I can feel the stress increasing with it.
ReplyDeleteLetting go is something I struggle with each and every day. The old motto, "let go and let God" is a constant reminder that only if I surrender will God's will be accomplished in my life.
ReplyDeleteSoooo ... my biggest control issue is with my children. Hate to admit that, but I often feel like a failure of a mom because I CAN'T let go!
ReplyDeleteMy control is concerns trying to keep my house "perfect" because I am always afraid I will have company drop by and then it will be less than "pefect". I love Karen's books and website so this would be a great read. Great chance to win and also the Kindle Fire.. Good luck to everyone
ReplyDeleteLet's see the control issue that my friend ahem deals with. Mine is trying not to control everything. I have lists for everything and even lists for lists. I check and double check things that need to be done like, when I leave the house I say front door locked, heat/air up, dogs food and water, coffee pot off and back door locked then I run down the names of my children to make sure we are all in the car. Then I asked about seat belts, don't know why I ask, I still have to physically see it buckled before I'll start the car.
ReplyDeleteThis control wears me out. I am too tired to enjoy the things God has blessed me with.

This so sounds like me on the control issue and now my daughter is acting the same way! I pray that we can both let go and let God!
ReplyDeleteSo pumped about getting into this book as a lifestyle.....been letting it go and letting God for many years now! Thank you for putting it all on paper Karen!
ReplyDeleteMy schedule is one area where I really need to learn to let go. I have been working on this, but I still get so frustrated when it doesn't go the way I plan. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to read this book...I am so not one to let go...I have to have my hands in everything...I have to have a list to do something and then I get upset when I haven't finished my to do list...Oh how I need this book. Help with biblical principals....
ReplyDeleteSmiles & Blessings,
Robin :)

Letting go is something I struggle with each and every day. This book sounds like a great tool to help me.
ReplyDeleteWell I need to have everything done 'my' way, or it doesn't get done. I think I have to do it all by myself, and I don't. Its so hard to let go!!! Brenda
ReplyDeleteI have an almost 3 year old (in just 3 days!), and it is so, so hard for me to let her learn and make mistakes. I do it, but it is a constant battle for me, that I'm sure will only get harder!
ReplyDeleteAs my oldest child is entering college I am having trouble letting go some of my control. I would really like to win this book
ReplyDeleteNeed to learn to let go of trying to control other people's actions and behavior.
ReplyDeleteAt present we are dealing with a man & woman - team of Manipulating neighbors that are lying and slandering us to other neighbors .... It is very disconcerting! At times I want to Strongly defend, and tell the Deceived neighbors the facts and revealing the sins of these Manipulators.... Problem is, I don't feel lead by God to defend and correct publicly at this time, it is a defense against the unfairness of the situation! I have chosen to Not act Unless/Until we are being lead by God to do so.... Knowing that at THAT time, He will put His words in our mouths - to bring healing to their broken spirits which have caused them to strike-out at us!
ReplyDeleteThis Let.It.Go. book give-a-way sounds like a Good Read at this uncomfortable time....
Trying to stop controlling the timing of my life and surrender to God's timing!
